5 minutes for climate action

We have a special opportunity to go big on climate action in the U.S. Senate. How? By including a carbon price in this year’s budget reconciliation package. Yes, the $3.5 Trillion budget reconciliation. This plan includes several important measures, including climate initiatives designed to support Biden’s 80% clean energy and 50% carbon emissions reduction by 2030. Among the proposed are:

  • A clean electricity standard

  • Clean energy and vehicle incentives

  • A fee on methane

  • A carbon border adjustment

The initiatives list is laudable but is missing a critical initiative - a carbon price. Notably, a carbon border adjustment without a national carbon price is ineffectual and with questionable credibility - we end up with a “do as I say, but not as I do” situation.

What to do?

We can all help by asking our senators to include a price on carbon in the budget reconciliation package. Citizens’ Climate Lobby makes it easy with a tool that allows you to email and/or call your senator quickly. In less than 5 minutes, you can join the chorus of many who are encouraging our leaders to put a price on carbon pollution, one of the most effective and efficient ways to reduce global warming emissions.

How?
Go to cclusa.org/senate. It will provide you with a convenient form that you can use to contact your senators quickly. If you choose, you can also call their office to share your request. (The tool provides the phone numbers and script.)

TIP: Make your call after office hours if you want to leave a voicemail.

You can make a difference in this fight to secure a sustainable and livable world for future generations. It takes 5 minutes.
